Headless CMS Agency

A headless CMS separates content management from how your website is displayed. We help you decide whether that architecture really serves your B2B website, then we build it with Strapi and Next.js.

What is a headless CMS?

A headless CMS is a content management system that stores and organizes your content without handling how it's displayed. Text, images and data are entered in an admin panel, then delivered through an API (REST or GraphQL) to a separately built front end: your website, an app, a product configurator or another site. The "head" is the presentation layer, and a headless CMS doesn't have one.

In a traditional CMS like WordPress, the admin and the website are one system: the theme lays out content stored in the same database. With headless, the two are independent. Your marketing team still edits in a simple interface, and developers build the front end with the best tool for the job, often a framework like Next.js.

How does a headless architecture work?

Three building blocks. The CMS, where content types are modeled and content is entered (pages, offers, case studies, articles). The API, which exposes that content. The front end, which pulls the content and renders pages ahead of time or on the server, so they load fast and Google can read them. The site is then served from a CDN. At Klickbee, we use Strapi for the CMS and Next.js for the front end.

Headless vs. decoupled vs. monolithic CMS

A monolithic CMS handles content and display in one tool. A decoupled CMS separates them but keeps a default front end. A headless CMS has no front end at all: it only delivers content. WordPress can also run headless through its REST API, which lets you keep a familiar admin with a modern front end.

When headless is the wrong choice

For a brochure site of a few pages, run by a small team, with one language and no integrations, a traditional CMS is simpler and cheaper to maintain. Headless needs a developer for every new page template and hosting in two parts. If WordPress or Webflow covers what you need, we'll tell you.

Signs a headless CMS makes sense for you

What we hear from B2B teams whose website has outgrown a traditional CMS.

  • "We run three sites in two languages with copy and paste." The same offers, product sheets and case studies get re-entered everywhere and drift apart with every update.
  • "The site is still slow after every optimization." Theme, plugins and database all work on every visit, and you've hit the limits of the architecture.
  • "Our content has to feed the website, the app and the configurator." One catalog or one set of documentation needs to be published in several places.
  • "Our developers spend their time working around the theme." Every new feature means hacking a CMS that was never built for it.
  • "We want the site connected to our CRM, ERP and product catalog." The data lives elsewhere and the site has to show it up to date, without re-entry.
  • "Every plugin update makes us nervous." The admin is exposed on the public site and depends on dozens of third-party plugins.

What our headless website development includes

From the architecture decision to launch, with a site your team knows how to run.

  • 01

    Architecture review and decision

We look at your content, your teams and your integrations to decide: headless, traditional WordPress or headless WordPress. You get a written, reasoned recommendation before any development quote.

  • 02

    Headless CMS selection

Strapi, Contentful, Sanity, Storyblok, Payload or headless WordPress: we compare hosting, licensing, editing experience and data ownership. Our default is Strapi, open source and self-hostable.

  • 03

    Content modeling

Pages, offers, industries, case studies, articles: every content type is structured into fields and reusable blocks. That's what lets you enter content once and publish it everywhere.

  • 04

    Fast, SEO-ready Next.js front end

Pages rendered ahead of time or on the server, SEO tags, structured data, sitemap and hreflang handled in code. The site stays readable for Google and AI answer engines.

  • 05

    CRM, tracking and business integrations

Forms connected to HubSpot or your CRM, conversion tracking, Klickbee Tracking to identify the companies visiting your site, and ERP or catalog connections when needed.

  • 06

    Preview, training and ownership

Page previews before publishing, roles and approvals, training for your editors. The code, the CMS, the content and the logins are in your name.

How a headless project works

Four steps, with a deliverable you approve at each one.

  1. 01

    Scoping and architecture decision

Workshop with your teams, content and integration inventory, keyword plan. You approve the technical architecture and the sitemap before any design work.

  2. 02

    Content model and design

We model your content types in the CMS and design the key pages for desktop and mobile, with conversion-focused copy.

  3. 03

    CMS and front-end development

CMS setup, Next.js front-end build, CRM connection, tracking and redirects from your old site. Full QA before launch.

  4. 04

    Launch and handover

Go-live, content migration, editor training and documentation. We watch the first data and adjust the pages that convert least.

Headless CMS vs. traditional CMS

Neither architecture is better in absolute terms. Here's what actually changes for a B2B website.

Headless CMS (e.g. Strapi + Next.js)Traditional CMS (e.g. WordPress)

Performance
Headless CMS (e.g. Strapi + Next.js): Pages pre-rendered and served from a CDN: very fast, even with a lot of content.
Traditional CMS (e.g. WordPress): Good when the site is well built, but tied to the theme and plugins.
Multi-site and multilingual
Headless CMS (e.g. Strapi + Next.js): Content entered once feeds several sites, languages and apps.
Traditional CMS (e.g. WordPress): Built for one site: more sites or channels mean plugins and re-entry.
Editing
Headless CMS (e.g. Strapi + Next.js): Structured forms and a preview to set up. A new page template needs a developer.
Traditional CMS (e.g. WordPress): Instant visual editing: your team builds pages alone with blocks or Elementor.
Security
Headless CMS (e.g. Strapi + Next.js): Admin separated from the public site, smaller attack surface.
Traditional CMS (e.g. WordPress): Secure when maintained, but exposed and reliant on third-party plugins.
Cost and timeline
Headless CMS (e.g. Strapi + Next.js): Higher: two parts to build and host.
Traditional CMS (e.g. WordPress): Lower, faster launch, wide choice of providers.

A headless site Google and AI can read

A poorly built headless site can be invisible: if pages are rendered in the browser, Google and AI crawlers get an almost empty page. It's the main criticism of headless, and it's fair when the rendering mode is chosen badly.

We render pages on the server or ahead of time, with explicit headings, direct answers at the top of each section, structured data, FAQs and internal links managed from the CMS. Because your content is structured, it's easier for ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews to quote.

Key takeaway

Headless doesn't improve SEO by magic. Set up well, it gives you fast pages and structured content, two assets for Google and AI answer engines.

Headless CMS FAQ

Straight answers on definition, cost, SEO and platform choice before you go headless.

What is a headless CMS?

It's a content management system with no presentation layer. Content is entered in an admin panel, then delivered through an API to a separately built front end: a website, an app or another channel. The CMS manages content, the front end manages display.

What does a headless CMS agency do?

It helps you choose the right CMS and architecture, models your content, builds the front end and connects your tools. At Klickbee, that also includes strategy, copywriting, SEO and conversion tracking, so the site supports your sales.

How is a headless CMS different from WordPress?

Traditional WordPress handles both content and display through its theme. A headless CMS only handles content and leaves display to a separate front end, such as Next.js. WordPress can also run headless through its REST API.

What are the pros and cons of a headless CMS?

Pros: fast pages, full design freedom, one piece of content published across sites, languages and apps, an admin separated from the public site, cleaner CRM and ERP integrations. Cons: higher upfront cost, two parts to host, a preview to set up and a developer for each new page template.

Is a headless website good for SEO?

Yes, if pages are rendered on the server or ahead of time. A front end that builds everything in the browser can hurt indexing. We handle tags, structured data, sitemap, hreflang and redirects directly in the front end.

Which headless CMS should I choose?

Strapi for an open-source CMS you host and own. Contentful for large organizations ready to pay for a license. Sanity for highly structured content and collaborative editing. Storyblok for visual editing. Payload for teams already on Next.js. Headless WordPress to keep a familiar admin. We build with Strapi by default.

How much does a headless website cost?

At Klickbee, a headless B2B website costs $6,900 for up to 20 pages, and from $12,900 for multilingual sites or custom integrations. Add hosting for the CMS and front end, plus a license if you pick a SaaS CMS.

How long does it take to build a headless website?

About 5 weeks for the Growth package. Scale projects follow a timeline we set together. Timing also depends on how fast approvals happen and how much content needs to be migrated.

Can my marketing team update the site?

Yes. They edit text, images, pages and articles in the admin, and assemble pages from the blocks we build. A brand new page layout does need a developer. We train your editors at handover.

Can you migrate a WordPress site to a headless CMS?

Yes. We move your content, redesign its structure in the new CMS and set up redirects to protect your Google rankings. Keeping WordPress as a headless backend is also an option if your team relies on it.

Who owns the website and the content?

You do. The front-end code, the CMS, the content, the domain and the hosting are in your name at delivery. With an open-source CMS like Strapi, you're not locked into any software vendor.

Do you work with companies outside France?

Yes. We're based in Paris and Dubai and work with companies across Europe, the Gulf and North America, with multilingual sites when needed.
